For her debut project, Defne Şahin set the poems of the great Turkish poet Nâzım Hikmet to music. His idea of freedom and the closeness to nature emphasized in his texts fascinate the singer.
Şahin studied with Judy Niemack and David Friedman at the Jazz Institute Berlin. Her compositions create a very unique world of sound that suits the poetry of Hikmet well. She and her band received in 2010 the 'Studiopreis' award from the Berliner Senat für Welt- und Popmusik. |
