ALY KEITA & THE MAGIC BALAFON
|
Aly Keïta originates from the West-African Ivory Coast, and is one of the great balafon virtuosos. The balafon is an African xylophone with calabashes as resonators and it is a unique West-African melodic instrument. When he was still just a child, the impressive musician was already creating instruments, and later he built not only a diatonic balafon, to open up the possibilities of new sounds, but also the world’s largest one in 1999. Aly Keïta merges virtuoso balafon playing – oriented towards a traditional African repertoire – with Western jazz, gentle pop and other African rhythms.
|
A fascinating musical experience, where the resident Berliner creates a connection between traditional and modern sounds and continues to develop modern styles of balafon playing. His band was a prize winner at the 2nd creole Global Music Contest.
Line up:
Aly Keïta – Balafon, kalimba
Marcel Van Cleef – Drums, percussion
Ramani Krishna– Electric bass
Arenor Anuku – Electric guitar
Viktor Wolf – Saxophons, flute
You can find Aly Keita on Facebook.
