Traditional Egyptian and Coptic melodies meld with contemporary Western styles to create a unique soundscape full of depth and sensuality. The voice of the singer, Nasser Kilada, is at the centre of the band's sound, accompanied by guitar (and sometimes oud or dobro) and trumpet, and sustained with bass and percussion. It extends beyond its Coptic-Egyptian musical culture without losing its relationship to its roots. The result is a highly individual sound, anchored in tradition and simultaneously open, that develops, pulses and is full of vibrancy. Always an extraordinary pleasure. |
RANIN is the Arabic word for "sound" – the sound of two worlds that unfold into a new beauty together and not in parallel. RANIN won the 5th creole competition for world music in Berlin-Brandenburg in 2015.
Nasser Kilada – voice, percussion, oud, composition
Christian Kögel – oud, acoustic guitar, composition
