Born in Congo, the musician Bernard Mayo came to Berlin in 1994, where he initially played at small world music festivals with his band Bella Fiesta Selection. His breakthrough came in 2000 with his debut album "Nigeli Jua" and in 2004 with "Hatsha Baba". He has already been the prizewinner of the Karneval der Kulturen competition in Berlin twice (2006/2007), played at events such as Munich's Long Night of Music, and has performed alongside world greats such as Salif Keita at the Tränenpalast, and Lokua Kanza at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt (House of World Cultures) in Berlin.
|
His music can be described as a dancy mixture of traditional African rhythms, Afro-pop and Congolese rumba, that he sings in five languages (French, Lingala, Kisuaheli, Chiluba and Kikongo).
