'Ukanasknelni' (The Last Ones) by Alexander Rekhviashvili

The film is a brilliant cinematographic portrait of the last inhabitants of the mountainous villages of Racha, a Georgian province that has been hardly changed throughout the recent decades. Breathtaking landscapes, daily lives of the village natives, their centuries long customs and traditions offer a unique insight into the characters, private lives and the magnificent nature of the region. Pictures of daily labour, natural environment, faces and figures of elderly people who work hard every day make up the core of the film. The film analyses the human condition at large moving from the small village lost in the Georgian mountains to the universal laws of existence, peace and cycle of life.


 
Alexander Rekhviashvili: The director, screenwriter, cinematographer and actor Alexander Rekhviashvili was born in 1938 in Moscow. In 1962, he completed his studies as a cameraman at the Moscow Film Institute (VGIK). From 1971, he finished his studies in Film Directing at Sergey Gerasimov. Since then, a number of films have emerged, including a cinematic history of Georgia in the 19th century. His works often underwent Soviet censorship.

Video works by Ariel Reichmann

Born in South Africa in 1979, Ariel Reichman lives and works in Berlin/ Tel Aviv. In 2006, Reichman studied at the University of Arts in Berlin, and in 2012 pursued his MFA at Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, in Jerusalem.
