Guest Events

On the one hand guest events are one of the sources of income for the WERKSTATT DER KULTUREN and therefore essential for the operation of the house, on the other hand they present an important vehicle for the promotion of the WERKSTATT DER KULTUREN's policy intentions: migrant organisations, artists collectives and cultural activist use the premises at extremely favourable rates and can therefore promote their own interests despite limited funds.

These bring a whole series of relevant events into the house covering the entire spectrum of topics that the WERKSTATT DER KULTUREN presents above.

Furthermore, because of the wish of guest organisers to be associated with the WERKSTATT DER KULTUREN, coupled with content compatibility and the need for consultation, preparation and support costs, guest events were increasingly able to be treated as co-operative events throughout 2016.

A large number of the guest events are workshops and conferences on subjects such as work of/with people who were forced to leave their homelands, help for their family and children, diversity in education the current situation of the judiciary in Turkey, anti-Muslim racism in Germany, feminism in Kurdish communities, fugitives as television makers, intercultural competence in educational counselling, youth welfare and social work or preservation the Kurdish language to name some examples from the last few months.

In addition, music and theatre performances by Turkish, Alevi, Kurdish, Iranian and Romanian NGOs, a workshop on improvisational theatre in a therapeutic context, the screening of a film about Cameroonian migrants in Germany, a Colombian salsa party and many other guest events enrich the programme of the WERKSTATT DER KULTUREN.

Rental income from guest events has increased over the past five years from around € 90,000 to around € 127,000.
