BLACK HISTORY MONTH 2014
Originally from Haiti, born in New York, raised in Montreal, and now living in Berlin, Rachelle Ebony Jeanty has been singing professionally for the past 18 years. She has toured the world for two years as backvocalist for Celine Dion and has given performances as a solo artist at ''Les Francofolies de Montreal'' and at the United Nations in New York. Today, back to her first love, Jazz, Rachelle's new exciting project ''RJ's AfroJazz Experience'' is quickly enticing her fans and the experts.

Rachelle Ebony Jeanty decribes JAZZ as the Love of her Life: "When I sing Jazz, a whole new door opens to my soul. No other songs touch my Heart like jazz standards do, so full of beauty and love, dignity and grace, wisdom and romance. Singing Jazz gives my Heart, my voice and my Spirit, the freedom, the joy and spontaneity they long for. AfroJazz is a direction I have been wanting to take for a long time. Deep in my gut lives Haiti, Africa, and the rythms they have fed my Soul with. Its no wonder I would one day feel the urge to integrate them into my music. It seems like the unavoidable step to take at this point of my journey, as I am growing closer and closer to my core, as a musician, as an artist, as a human being.'' Samples

Zum BLACK HISTORY MONTH 2014 vom 28. Januar bis 28. Februar finden in der WERKSTATT DER KULTUREN eine Ausstellung, Panels, Konzerte, eine Lesung, religiöse Tanzdarbietungen und Filmvorführungen statt, die das diesjährige Schwerpunktthema ‚Religion, Musik und Widerstand’ entlang der bedeutsamen Jahre 1884, 1904, 1964 und 1994 bearbeiten; den hundertjahrelangen Weg zur Freiheit.
