Black Music Renaissance 3 goes BLACK HISTORY MONTH
Kelvin Sholar presents Machete Horns
![]() |
In cooperation with award-winning Black American pianist Kelvin Sholar we present the third installment of BLACK MUSIC RENAISSANCE: a four-day powerhouse event with the goal to celebrate the common threads of rhythm, harmony and melody that unites all music of the African diaspora with music from the Americas and Eurasia.
Kelvin Sholar is a musician that knows no stylistic boundaries. He has won over ten awards for music and appeared on over one hundred recordings, in wildly ranging styles. Sholar is featured in live performances by Stevie Wonder, Kevin Saunderson or Carl Craig, Qtip, Nigel Kennedy and many others; not to mention his acclaimed work with original music, or the music of Jeff Mills, Rob Hood, Earth, Wind and Fire- and many others.

Machete Horns
![]() |
Machete Horns are two Cuban musicians of the new generation: the saxophonist Regis "KinRe" Molina and the trumpeter Daniel "El Congo". They are graduates of the Superior Institute of Arts (ISA) in Cuba. Even though they were trained as classical musicians since their early days, the Horns were always absorbing their heritage music, ranging from Afro-Cuban religious music to reggae, rumba, soul and classical music.
|
In 2006, they met for the first time in Berlin. Combined with new elements they found in this cosmopolitan city, they created a unique and spontaneous sound with percussion and horns: The Machete Horns. They have performed in clubs, at festivals and on TV shows with Tony Allen, Jimmy Tenor, Jean- Paul Bourelli (Miles Davis), Aloe Blacc, Raúl Paz, Interactivo, JahAcoustic and many more.
