Popcorn essen könnt ihr woanders! Vom 09.-11. November 2018 zeigen wir die dritte Edition des kleinen aber sehr feinen creole Musikfilmfest, das thematisch im Zeichen des "Soundtracks der 68er" steht.

Der Eintritt ist frei, über Spenden freuen wir uns sehr!

Message To Love: The Isle Of Wight Festival 1970

Regie: Murray Lerner, USA, 1997, 127 min.

 

Message to Love is a feature documentary film of the Isle of Wight Festival 1970. The film unsparingly, often comically depicts the myriad problems associated with the famously chaotic festival including gate-crashing, numerous crowd incursions onto the stage, Kris Kristofferson being booed offstage, and head promoter Rikki Farr's rants against the audience, which only intensified as the situation deteriorated: "We put this festival on, you bastards, with a lot of love! We worked for one year for you pigs! And you wanna break our walls down and you wanna destroy it? Well you go to hell!" This and two other brief dialogue extracts from the film were later sampled in the Oasis track "Fuckin' in the Bushes", from the album Standing on the Shoulder of Giants.

In addition, several near-riots occurred over the price of tickets, as well as during several of the performances that took place over the weekend, especially Jimi Hendrix's last billed performance in England.

Due to financial difficulties, Message to Love wasn't released until 1997, 27 years after the event, after premiering at a San Jose film festival in 1995. A CD of the soundtrack was also issued by Castle Communications/Sony Legacy in 1997.

WorldWideMusic presents Fanna-Fi-Allah

Traditionelle Sufi-Qawwali-Musik

Fanna-Fi-Allah halten die Flamme traditioneller Sufi-Qawwali-Musik, mit den Segnungen ihrer Lehrer; Einige der größten Meister der Qawwali Form in Indien und Pakistan. Durch die Schönheit der Musik verkörpern sie eine universelle Botschaft der Hingabe und Toleranz, die für unsere Zeit entscheidend ist.
 
Die Gründungsmitglieder der Gruppe haben über 20 Jahre lang diese klassische Kunst gelernt, die die großen alten Sufi-Mystiker feiert und die Liebe zum Göttlichen durch Poesie zelebriert. Gesungen mit einem kraftvollen, aufsteigenden Chor und begleitet von den energischen Rhythmen der Tabla- und Gruppenklatschen wird „der Geliebte“ mit ekstatischer Hingabe gefeiert.

 

Fanna-Fi-Allah haben den Segen erfahren, Qawwali in seiner traditionellen Umgebung in den ehrwürdigen Grabstätten der Sufi-Heiligen in Pakistan und Indien zu spielen, wo Qawwali ihren Ursprung hat.

Dazu gehören die heiligen Schreine von: Data Ganj Baksh (Lahore), Baba Ganj-e-Shakar (Pak Pattan), Baba Bulleh Shah (Kasoor), Baba Lasuri Shah (Faislabad) und in Indien an den Gräbern von Khwaja Nizzam-Ud- Deen Aulia, Amir Khusrau, Pir Inayat Khan (Delhi) und Khwaja Mueen-Ud-Deen Chishty (Ajmer).
Während ihrer 17-jährigen Tournee auf der ganzen Welt haben sie dem Publikum einen einzigartigen Einblick in diese reiche und lebendige Kultur geboten. Sie spielten auf vielen internationalen Festivals und Konzerten in großen Städten. Sie haben das Publikum in den USA, Kanada, Pakistan, Europa, Indonesien, Indien, Ägypten (usw.) mit ihrer dynamischen Fähigkeit und leidenschaftlichen musikalischen Präzision begeistert.

El Viaje - Musikfilm mit Rodrigo Gonzalez

Dokumentarfilm von Nahuel Lopez, Deutschland 2016, 90 min.

Rod Gonzalez, Bassist der Punkrock-Band "Die Ärzte", bricht zu einer Spurensuche nach Chile auf. In seiner zweiten Heimat erforscht er seine musikalischen Wurzeln.

1974 floh Rodrigo Gonzalez als Sechsjähriger mit seiner Familie vor der Militärdiktatur Augusto Pinochets nach Hamburg. Die Protestmusik der "Nueva Cancion Chilena" wurde zum Soundtrack einer ganzen Generation, die gegen die den Diktator auf die Straßen ging.

Ein halbes Leben später kehrt der Musiker zurück, um den Soundtrack seiner Kindheit zu suchen. Auf seiner Reise möchte er die chilenischen Protestsänger der 1960er- und 1970er-Jahre treffen, die seine Kindheit auch im deutschen Exil weitergeprägt haben, sowie deren musikalische Erben von heute. Sein Ziel ist es, mit allen Musikern Tonaufnahmen zu machen, um für sich selbst eine Erinnerung mit zurück nach Hamburg nehmen zu können.

Finding Fela

Regie: Alex Gibney, USA, 2014, 120 min., engl.

 

Finding Fela is a 2014 documentary film by Oscar-winning director Alex Gibney, portraying and analysing the life of pioneering musician Fela Kuti.

The film had its world premiere at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival on January 17, 2014.

A look at the life and music of Nigerian singer Fela Kuti, interwoven with extended scenes of the development of the New York musical Fela! and interviews with its director Bill T. Jones.

Finding Fela received mixed reviews from critics. Geoffrey Berkshire of Variety, said in his review: "This watchable but rather rote chronicle fails to find a compelling perspective on Kuti's significant life and legacy."

David Rooney of The Hollywood Reporter praised the film by describing it as "An absorbing if not quite definitive patchwork of the life and legacy of an unorthodox artist."

"Karuna Supreme" von Ali Akbar Khan & John Handy

In dieser Edition unserer HOMAGE SESSION wird Das World-Jazz-Ensemble der WERKSTATT DER KULTUREN, die Little Big Band, das Album "Karuna Supreme" von Ali Akbar Khan & John Handy spielen.

Karuna Supreme is an album by Ali Akbar Khan and John Handy which was recorded in 1975 and originally released on the MPS label.

 

Allmusic awarded the album 4½ stars stating "Karuna Supreme, recorded in 1975, is one of the earliest true fusions of Indian music and jazz, and remains one of the most successful... The level of communication among the players throughout this session would be difficult to surpass. This is one of those rare East-meets-West recordings that absolutely succeeds at every level. Highly recommended".

Ali Akbar Khan (14 April 1922–18 June 2009) was a Hindustani classical musician of the Maihar gharana, known for his virtuosity in playing the sarod. Trained as a classical musician and instrumentalist by his father, Allauddin Khan, Khan also composed several classical ragas and film scores.[1] He established a music school in Calcutta in 1956, and the Ali Akbar College of Music in 1967, which moved with him to the USA and is now based in San Rafael, California, with a branch in Basel, Switzerland.

Jimi Hendrix

The film contains concert footage of Hendrix from 1967 to 1970, including the Monterey Pop Festival the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival, Woodstock and a Berkeley concert. The film also includes interviews with Hendrix' contemporaries, family and friends. People appearing in the film include Paul Caruso, Eric Clapton, Billy Cox, Alan Douglas, Germaine Greer, Hendrix' father, James A. "Al" Hendrix, Mick Jagger, Eddie Kramer, Buddy Miles, Mitch Mitchell, Juggy Murray, Little Richard, Lou Reed and Pete Townshend.

The soundtrack to the film features 12 songs as well as excerpts of interviews with Hendrix, his father Al Hendrix, Little Richard and others.
